Primer Support
Last Updated: May 11, 2026
Primer is a homeschool planner for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. If something isn't working or you have a question, this page is the fastest way to get help.
Contact us
The best way to reach us is email — we read every message and reply within 1–2 business days (usually faster).
When you write, please tell us:
- Which device(s) you're using (iPhone / iPad / Mac)
- The Primer version (shown in Settings → About)
- What you expected to happen and what happened instead
- Screenshots if you have them
Getting started
The first time you open Primer, a five-step setup walks you through:
- Welcome
- Add your first child (you can add more anytime in Settings)
- Pick the subjects your family studies (tap presets like Math, Reading, Science)
- Optionally enable a daily reminder notification
- Start planning
From there, use the Today tab to see what's planned, the Calendar tab to add or move assignments, the Journal to capture moments, and the Library to save curriculum links.
iCloud sync
Primer syncs across your devices through your own iCloud account — no separate Primer account is required.
- Make sure you're signed into iCloud on each device (Settings → [Your Name]) and that iCloud Drive is on for Primer.
- The sync status pill in the sidebar / settings shows current state: green checkmark when active, warning if your device is offline or not signed in.
- First sync after install can take a minute or two while data hydrates from iCloud. Subsequent updates are near-instant.
- Primer also works offline — your changes save locally and sync when your connection returns.
Sharing with a co-parent
In Settings → Household, you can invite a co-parent to share the same plan. They'll get a link that opens Primer and adds your household to their app. After accepting:
- Both adults see and edit the same children, subjects, and assignments.
- The data is shared peer-to-peer through Apple's CloudKit, not through our servers.
- Either parent can stop sharing at any time from Settings → Household.
Common questions
How do I plan a whole week at once?
Tap Generate Week on the calendar. Pick from four modes — From Schedule, From Last Week, From Template, or Blank Week — and confirm. You can also save any great week as a reusable template.
How do I move an assignment to a different day?
On iPad and Mac, drag the assignment cell. On iPhone, tap the cell to open the editor and change the date, or use the “Move to Tomorrow” / “Move to Next Week” actions from the context menu.
How do I attach a photo to a journal entry?
Open Calendar → the day in question, scroll to the journal section, and tap the photo icon. Primer downscales photos to fit comfortably in iCloud and stores them alongside the entry.
What about printing a weekly schedule?
On Mac use File → Print Schedule… (⌘P). On iPhone or iPad, open the print sheet from the overflow menu in the calendar header.
What happens if I'm not signed into iCloud?
Primer still works — all your data is saved locally on that device. It just won't sync to your other devices until you sign in.
How do I delete all my Primer data?
Delete the app from each device. To also remove the iCloud copy, open iCloud Settings on your device → Manage Account Storage → Primer → Delete data.
