Primer Privacy Policy
Last Updated: May 11, 2026
Primer is a homeschool planner made by Small Pond Productions, LLC (“we,” “our,” or “us”). We built it to respect your family's privacy by default. This policy describes — in plain language — what information Primer touches, where it goes, and what we never do with it.
TL;DR
- We do not collect, sell, or share your data. No analytics, no tracking, no third-party SDKs.
- Your homeschool data lives in your own iCloud account. Apple is the storage provider, not us. We can't see it.
- Photos and calendar events stay on your device unless your iCloud syncs them to your other devices.
What information does Primer store, and where?
Primer stores the information you enter — children, subjects, schedules, assignments, journal entries, photos, and curriculum library items — using Apple's iCloud (CloudKit). This means:
- The data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple.
- It is stored in the iCloud account you are signed into on your device.
- It syncs between your own iPhone, iPad, and Mac through your Apple ID.
- If you share a household with a co-parent through Primer's family-sharing feature, that data is also accessible to them via Apple's CloudKit sharing — directly between your iCloud accounts.
We, the developers of Primer, do not have access to any of this data. It does not pass through our servers. We have no servers.
What permissions does Primer ask for, and why?
Primer asks for the following permissions only when you opt into the corresponding feature. You can decline any of them and the rest of the app continues to work.
- Calendars — If you turn on the “Show calendar events” toggle, Primer reads events from your local calendars (via Apple's EventKit) so it can display them next to your weekly schedule. Primer never modifies your calendars and never transmits this information off your device.
- Photos — When you attach a photo to a journal entry, Primer uses Apple's PhotosPicker to let you choose an image. Primer only receives the specific images you select, and stores a downscaled copy alongside the journal entry in your iCloud (so it syncs to your other devices).
- Notifications — Optional. Used only to send a daily reminder at the time you choose. Notifications are scheduled locally on your device.
- iCloud / CloudKit — Required for sync across your own devices and for family sharing.
What third-party services does Primer use?
None. Primer contains no third-party analytics, no advertising SDKs, no crash-reporting services, and no trackers. The only Apple frameworks Primer uses for data are CloudKit (storage), EventKit (read-only calendar display), and the standard iOS/macOS photo APIs.
Account creation
Primer does not require you to create an account or provide an email address. The app uses your existing Apple ID's iCloud account for storage. There is no separate Primer account to manage.
Children's privacy
Primer is designed for parents to plan and track homeschool activities for their children. The app does not collect personal information from children. Anything you record about a child (name, grade, assignments, journal entries, photos) is stored in your own iCloud account under your own Apple ID. Primer does not advertise to children and does not include features that share children's information publicly.
How do I delete my data?
You can delete any individual record (child, subject, assignment, journal entry, photo, resource) directly inside Primer. Deletions sync to your other devices via iCloud.
To remove everything Primer has stored:
- Delete the Primer app from each device you've installed it on.
- (Optional, to clear iCloud copies) Open the iCloud settings on your device → Manage Account Storage → Primer → Delete data.
Because Primer stores no data on our servers, there is no “request deletion from us” process — you control the data directly through Apple's iCloud.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy if Primer adds new features or new data flows. If we do, we will publish a revised version at this same URL and update the “Last Updated” date above. Material changes will also be noted in the App Store release notes for that version.
